Wednesday November 20, 2024 1:30pm - 2:30pm EST
Session Description: This module introduces practitioners to the importance of understanding adolescent development in the context of continued, long-term cannabis use. In addition to the obvious physical changes, there are significant cognitive, emotional, social, and behavioral developments that occur in adolescence. Through research, it has been determined that cannabis continues to be the drug of choice for most teens. Juvenile Treatment Court teams should consider the research and recommended practices associated with reductions in cannabis use. This module also focuses on ways to build a more responsive Juvenile Treatment Court by unpacking and understanding the research. At the conclusion of this session, Juvenile Treatment Court Teams will be able to identify the effective ways to change behaviors.
Learner Objectives: After this session, participants will be able to:
      • Describe research and recommended practice related to adolescent cannabis use and its effect on the brain.
      • Illustrate practical approaches to translating relevant research into practice. Focusing on how Juvenile Treatment Courts can modify approaches used to decrease cannabis use.
