Major Kenny L. Brown, Assistant Bureau Chief of the Criminal Investigation Bureau, brings over 26 years of law enforcement experience. Throughout his distinguished career, he has excelled in roles ranging from patrol and supervision to executive leadership. Rising through the ranks to Major, Brown has demonstrated resourcefulness, proficiency, and dedication to his profession. His expertise spans across patrol, criminal interdiction, investigations, and undercover operations. As a Federal Task Force Officer with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), he played a key role in dismantling criminal enterprises and drug trafficking organizations, maintaining a high-level federal security clearance throughout his career.
Growing up in Baltimore City, Major Brown witnessed the destructive effects of criminal enterprises, gangs, and drug traffickers. Determined to avoid the same path as many of his peers, he pursued a career in law enforcement, driven by a deep desire to bring justice to communities like his own. He attended Coppin State University, excelling academically, and joined the Maryland Department State Police in 1998. Over the years, Major Brown specialized in investigating violent and drug-related crimes, progressing from a young trooper to an experienced leader. He led undercover operations involving close collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies, particularly in complex narcotics and wiretap investigations, helping to save lives from drug-related violence.
Major Brown’s leadership includes overseeing undercover narcotics operations and investigations throughout Maryland. His expertise in handling confidential informants and conducting dangerous investigations has led to the dismantling of multiple criminal enterprises. He is highly respected by law enforcement leaders, elected officials, and private sector partners alike. His extensive knowledge includes Maryland criminal law, asset forfeiture statutes, MOUs, allocation of seized funds, undercover operations, wiretapping procedures, and public corruption investigations. Known for his ability to effectively manage diverse law enforcement teams, Major Brown is a key figure in advancing the mission and vision of the Maryland Department of State Police.
