About me
Maxine Curtis has over 25 years of experience in the behavioral health field. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a focus on the Administration of Criminal Justice from Virginia State University. She then pursued a Master’s Degree in Social Work with a clinical concentration in Families and Children from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
Throughout her career, Maxine has served in various capacities, starting as a case manager for behavioral health agencies, where she provided comprehensive services to individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses, many of whom had histories of trauma, substance use, and unhoused. Her dedication and expertise led her to advance in her career, where she took on leadership roles within a non-profit behavioral health organization. As a Residential Rehabilitation Program Director and later as a Regional Director, in which she oversaw and guided outpatient behavioral health clinics, day programs, and multi-level care residential homes.
In 2016, Maxine joined the Maryland Judiciary as the Problem-Solving Court Coordinator for the Mental Health Court in Montgomery County District Court. Since its inception in January 2017, the Mental Health Court program has successfully graduated 123 participants and served over 225 individuals. September 2024, Maxine was promoted to the Administrative Office of the Courts, Office of Problem-Solving Court as the Senior Program Manager for Behavioral Health. Maxine is deeply passionate about behavioral health and remains committed to making a positive impact within the criminal justice system through her work and advocacy.
